Celebrating 200 Years of Making History

As the year-long celebration of Miami University’s 200th year rolls on, the university is taking the celebration nation-wide through a series of Bicentennial Tour events that began in March and will extend into 2010.

The Bicentennial Tour is headlined by a traveling historical display that chronicles Miami’s first 200 years through photographs, graphic renderings, and other memorabilia. The collection looks at Miami through a variety of perspectives, including university leadership, faculty, athletics, student life, and the liberal arts education.

Through their featured address, President David Hodge and University Ambassador Valerie Hodge highlight 10 significant moments in Miami history, tying together the university’s past present and future. Other speakers include a representative of each local alumni chapter and a current Miami student.

Hundreds of Miami alumni and friends have reconnected to the university through the first 10 Bicentennial Tour stops, which have taken place from Denver to New York City. Two stops remain for 2009, including Northern California (San Francisco), Dec. 3, and Southern California (Los Angeles), Dec. 5. Additional stops are in the works for Phoenix and Florida early in 2010.
