University Libraries

King Library

Before Miami University had a campus, it had the start of a library.

While the role of the Miami University Libraries has evolved throughout the university’s history, the Libraries have maintained a central presence in Miami’s student experience, spanning academic disciplines and generations of committed, hard-working students.

Whether in pursuit of academic excellence in the classroom, a research passion that goes beyond the classroom, or simply a place of peace and reflection, Miami’s students still find a welcoming and supportive community in the Miami University Libraries. Your giving advances that tradition, ensuring students have access to the knowledge, resources, spaces and personalized guidance that contribute directly to their academic and life success.

While a number of funds generously support and enhance the Miami University Libraries, we encourage you to consider four priority areas:

The Dean’s Fund – This unrestricted fund creates the flexibility for the Dean and University Librarian to ensure the University Libraries are responsive in anticipating and meeting the needs of students and faculty.

Technology Support—From technology basics that not all students can afford, like iPads and laptop computers, to advanced technologies, like cutting-edges computer laboratories, recording studios and 3D printing, the Miami University Libraries are a campus leader in offering access to the technologies students need to thrive in a digital world.

The Textbook Initiative—According to a recent College Board report, today’s students spend approximately $1,200 a year on textbooks and supplies. Today’s Miami University Libraries, offer access to more than 500 textbooks from Miami’s most popular courses, ensuring students can complete textbook assignments regardless of their ability to afford a textbook.

Special Collections & Archival Collections—From rare Shakespeare folios to accounts of early settlers and the Cradle of Coaches collection, the Walter Havighurst Special Collections and university archival collections—encompassing the histories of Miami University, Western College and Oxford College—serve as an invaluable laboratory for the humanities at Miami University. Donor support grows, preserves and promotes these treasured collections that awe and inspire our students.
