Miami University's College of Education, Health & Society is one of the only teacher preparation programs in the area seeing growing enrollment, by leveraging existing programs and relationships, seeks to collaborate with partners across K-12, higher education and the community to scale a promising solution. Miami's TEACh Cincinnati initiative is a new homegrown approach to identifying the next generation of classroom teachers from within a community. Miami faculty have been working with youth in Cincinnati to expose them to a potential career in teaching and have been preparing cohorts to gain admission to Miami's teacher education program, have a full Miami experience, and then gain preferred hiring status back in the Cincinnati community.
As we prepare to welcome the second cohort of students to Miami this fall we have begun to fundraise for what we anticipate will become a significant, long-term pipeline of future K-12 teachers. It will take significant investments from various resources to support the many aspects of this work. The overall TEACh Cincinnati Fund will be a resource to support the needs of the pipeline that are not yet fully realized or already supported through other financial commitments. This would include transportation costs, experiential learning opportunities, research, etc.
