Richard ’74 and Cheryl Monroe have given more than $1 million to support two scholarships for students majoring in programs in Miami University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CEC).

“We hope these scholarships will enable future Miamians to achieve their educational and career goals. Our hope is that their Miami experiences will lead to amazing life journeys,” said Rich.

The Rich and Cheryl Monroe Family Computer Science Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science.

The first Rich and Cheryl Monroe Family Presidential Fellows Computer Science Scholarship will be awarded this fall to first-year students majoring in Computer Science and admitted into the Presidential Fellows Program. Miami’s most prestigious cohort and scholarship program, only 20 students are accepted each year into the Program after being recruited from the top 1% across the nation. Once enrolled, Presidential Fellows receive financial support for tuition, fees, housing, and meals, as well as a one-time academic enrichment stipend.

The donors would like to see their scholarship recipients continue the tradition of giving. “Perhaps someday these students will be in a position to financially assist someone to achieve his or her educational dream,” said Rich.
